The Team at the Red Lion are celebrating this month as their award winning food and service continues to be recognised.

The Michelin Guide 2019 sees the Red Lion listed for the second consecutive year

We also been named as serving the Best British Roast Dinner in the Midlands and Wales by Unilever Food Solutions

We were selected as finalists in the prestigious Taste of Staffordshire Good Food Awards in the Casual Dining category



And if that’s not enough our Sous Chef, Megan, has been named as a finalist in the British Culinary Federation Young Chef of the Year with the finals taking place on Monday 5th November.

Our Michelin plaque has arrived!

Along with the Michelin Guide entry we were also granted a Michelin Plate award which is a new category of Michelin Award indicating that the restaurant has notable quality food. “The restaurant might be on the brink of the next award, either a Bib Gourmand or a Michelin Star but isn’t quite there yet”.

We are delighted that the newly published Michelin Guide 2018 features The Red Lion, Bradley, along with the award of a Michelin Plate

Red Lion MichelinFollowing their anonymous visit, the inspectors described the Red Lion: “An airy bar and conservatory opens onto a dining room hung with photos of the pub through the ages.  Menus offer plenty of choice, with hearty, flavoursome dishes ranging from whole roast witch sole to curried chicken Kiev”

The Michelin Plate award is a new category of Michelin Award and indicates that the restaurant has quality food which is notable and the inspectors enjoyed the experience. The restaurant might be on the brink of the next award, either a Bib Gourmand or a Michelin Star but isn’t quite there yet.

Chris Lewis, Managing Partner of The Lewis Partnership which owns The Red Lion, Bradley said  “To receive such a high accolade from well respected and trusted assessors of our industry is a brilliant achievement, especially when it comes within the first year of launching the “new” Red Lion.  It is a testament to our team of the hard work and dedication that goes into producing the consistency of service that is recognised by this award.

The Moat House, Acton Trussell, another member of The Lewis Partnership portfolio, was also recognised with a Michelin Plate in the 2018 guide, at the same time as having its 2 AA Rosette status renewed for the 19th consecutive year.


The Lion ROARS at the Enjoy Staffs Awards 2016!

The Red Lion, Bradley was honoured to receive the title of Tourism Pub of the Year at the 2016 NFU Mutual Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards held at Alton Towers Resort on Tuesday 15th November.

Enjoy Staffs Tourism Pub of the Year The Red Lion, BradleyThe awards application was completed prior to our closure for refurbishment which means we are even more excited for the future of the new look Red Lion when we reopen next month!

Awards in 20 categories were handed out at the awards ceremony which was attended by more than 150 people and was compèred by BBC radio and TV presenter Joanne Malin. Entertainment came from magician and illusionist Andrew van Buren.

The awards were independently judged and verified by Service Science. Entrants were reviewed and marked on their commitment to delivering excellent customer service, training and skills for employees, sustainability and environment, along with dedication to best practice, quality of service and product.

Sarah Montgomery, chair of Enjoy Staffordshire and Managing Director at the National Memorial Arboretum, said: “Annual spend in Staffordshire by visitors has grown by almost 40% since 2008 and the sector employs a shade under 30000 people – 28% more people than it did eight years ago.

“It’s a tribute to the excellence celebrated here today and to the hard work, creativity and professionalism of those here today and in the wider sector.”

15 of the businesses awarded gold will now represent Staffordshire on a national level, automatically going forward to the 2017 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, which will be held in Spring 2017.

The Lion is scheduled for a ROARingly great Refurb!

red-lion-approved-plans Since being taken over by The Lewis Partnership in November 2015, the Red Lion has gone from strength to strength and we are proud to have once again established this countryside gem into the heart of the village community.

When we took over the property we said we’d be undertaking a full refurb to really enhance the building and its grounds; to make it a more inviting venue and to bring it up to Lewis Partnership standards so it can proudly sit within our portfolio.

Earlier this year we refitted the dated kitchen. Although largely unseen by the general public, this improvement work has increased the efficiency and service in the restaurant resulting in a more pleasant dining experience.

red-lion-sneak-previewFollowing a lengthy planning application process, delayed by the necessity for two bat surveys, we have now received approval of our plans and works are due to commence on Monday 19th September.  The nature of the works means that the Red Lion will be completely closed for several weeks and we hope to be in a position to unveil our new look by November.




The Lion’s Awakening

We reopened the doors of The Red Lion, Bradley on Friday 27th November 2015 under the ownership of The Lewis Partnership making us the 5th member of their award-winning hospitality portfolio which also includes The Moat House, Acton Trussell ; The Swan Hotel, Stafford; The Dog & Doublet Sandon and The Bear Grill, Stafford

Since opening we have been lucky enough to regularly have a fully booked restaurant including a mix of eager local villagers and past customers keen to be amongst the first to experience the re-birth of this much loved traditional village pub.
Everyone remembers The Red Lion, Bradley as “the place to go” in its hey day, and it is our intention to restore that reputation.

The neglected building is in need of a full refurbishment, which will follow in the early Summer of 2016, but for now the quality of food and service on offer gives a taster of what is to come.
Our team is made up of old and new Lewis Partnership faces, each one as enthusiastic as our guests to restore the reputation of this much loved venue.

Faye Parker is the Front of House Manager. Although relatively new to The Lewis Partnership, she started work on the Moat House bar in November 2014, Faye quickly made her mark and was promoted to Bar Supervisor within a couple of months. Faye is joined at The Red Lion by her partner Ben Peace, who heads up the bar team. Again Ben joined the Lewis Partnership on the Moat House bar in April 2014 and he and Faye are raring to go in their new challenge as the Management Team at The Red Lion. Faye and Ben have known each other since middle school but it was only when they met again when Faye was working at The Hartley Arms, Wheaton Aston that love blossomed over the beer pumps. Wedding bells are on the horizon for 2017 so Faye and Ben are in for an exciting couple of years.

Assistant Front of House Manager Catherine Brown is no stranger to The Lewis Partnership either, having worked at The Moat House from 1998, she was part of the original team at the Swan Hotel, Stafford during the takeover in 2002 where she was Assistant Brasserie Manager for two years. Catherine moved on to pursue various other managerial positions including a job at Coombe Abbey before rejoining The Lewis Partnership team to re-open The Red Lion.

The fantastic kitchen team are, like every Lewis Partnership kitchen, overseen by our Group Executive Chef, Matt Davies, but it is Head Chef Stuart Bruce who takes the reins on a daily basis. Stuart, another Lewis Partnership veteran, has worked in the Moat House kitchen as Senior Sous Chef for 15 years and is delighted with his new role. (Another Lewis Partnership love story – Stuart is marrying Marianne, Operations Manager at the Dog & Doublet, in April following their meeting at The Lewis Partnership Pop-Up Restaurant at Stone Food & Drink Festival!)

Supporting Stuart in the kitchen is a new Lewis Partnership employee, Sous Chef Jon Evans, ex Head Chef of the Exchange Hotel, Shrewsbury. Jon recently moved to Acton Trussell with his partner and 3 young children and it was this move which introduced him to The Lewis Partnership and his vast amount of experience meant he was soon snapped up to take his place in the Red Lion team.

Another familiar face in The Lewis Partnership kitchen also returns to the team. Arran Jones worked in The Moat House kitchen between 2008 and 2014 before taking a once in a lifetime opportunity to work at Gordon Ramsey’s Michelin starred restaurant Petrus, in London. After gaining masses of experience that money cannot buy, Arran moved back to Stone and rejoins the team as Chef de Partie.
